Golf Lessons Through PGA Junior League

PGA Jr. League exists to bring communities together through  fun, team golf experiences… plus those experiences that transcend golf  itself, like friendships that last for years to come or a newfound sense  of confidence.

PGA Jr. League is the flagship youth pillar program of the PGA of America’s 501(c)(3) foundation, PGA REACH. The aim is to make PGA Jr. League accessible to all children everywhere, regardless of circumstance.

PGA Professional Doug coaches several teams at Currie Golf Course in Midland and his trained assistant coaches coach teams at Maple Leaf Golf Course in Linwood, Bay County Golf Course in Bay City, and new for 2023 Sandy Ridge Golf Course in Midland.   13U and 17U teams complete in a scramble format against teams from other courses in the region.   NEW for 2023 team members and families will have the opportunity to compete in Sunday Funday themed family fun scrambles the last Sunday of June, July, and August.  All abilities welcome.  Yes, we do play other courses in a competition but players and parents should know the format is like little league baseball / softball.  We are developing fundamentals of the swing, on course application, and sportsmanship.  All are welcome and teams are co-ed.

Golf Lessons / Life Lessons First Tee - 2023 Summer Camps in the Great Lakes Bay Region

First Tee is an international youth development organization introducing  the game of golf and its inherent values to kids and teens. Through  after-school and in-school programs, we help shape the lives of young  people from all walks of life by reinforcing values like integrity,  respect, and perseverance through the game of golf. And it’s making a  difference.

Proven Results: Lasting Impacts Beyond the Course

At First Tee, we help kids learn life skills, not just golf — and we  have the independent research to back it up. After speaking to  participants who have been in the program for three years, we found:

  • 73% reported high confidence in their ability to do well academically.
  • 82% felt confident in their social skills with peers.
  • 52% credited the program for their ability to appreciate diversity.
  • 100%  bridged what they learned in First Tee to school.

In a recent study of teens and alumni involved in First Tee chapters,  80% say the program’s lessons helped them become a better student and  had a lasting impact. The longer teens and alumni stayed in the program,  the more they reported improvement in:

  • interpersonal skills
  • understanding and managing emotions
  • goal-setting
  • resilience
