Coach Doug Temple is a highly experienced PGA Professional, with over thirty years of expertise in teaching, coaching, and promoting the game of golf. A proud graduate of Ferris State University's renowned Professional Golf Management Program, Doug is a Certified PGA Professional specializing in golf operations. His extensive background spans a wide array of roles in the golf industry, including working alongside Golf Digest and National Teacher of the Year, Jack Lumpkin. Doug has also served as Director of Instruction for the Nike Golf Learning Centers at Celebration Golf Club, coached at both the college and high school levels, and held the position of Head PGA Professional at Indian River Golf Club, Celebration Golf Club, and Mt. Doug's deep passion for golf and commitment to youth development led him to create the Bullseye Golf Foundation in 2007. Through this initiative, he has introduced the game to thousands of young people, inspiring the next generation of golfers. His dedication to community service extends beyond the golf course, as he has served in various leadership roles, including Director of Operations for the YMCA of Saginaw and Board Member of the First Tee Eastern Michigan, Saginaw Exchange Club, Ferris State University Alumni Board, Michigan PGA Growth of the Game committee, and is past President of Ferris State University's Professional Golf Management Alumni Association.

In addition to fostering a love for the game in youth, Doug has recently dedicated much of his energy to serving veterans and their families. As a certified PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) coach, he offers FREE golf programs for veterans at Currie Golf Course in Midland and Bay Valley Golf Resort in Bay City. Through these programs, Doug aims to provide veterans with the opportunity to enjoy the game of golf while connecting with others in their community.

Doug’s commitment to fun, learning, and personal growth is central to his teaching philosophy. Whether working with beginners or advanced players, Doug emphasizes enjoyment, skill development, and the life lessons that golf can offer. His programs, including PGA Jr. League, PGA HOPE, PGA Family Cup, and First Tee Camps are designed to instill valuable character skills while introducing the game in a fun and engaging manner.

For those looking to take their game to the next level, Doug offers personalized lessons on a limited basis. With Doug Temple as your coach, you’ll not only improve your skills but also deepen your love for the sport of a lifetime.

PGA Jr. League is a nationwide youth golf program designed to make the game fun, engaging, and accessible for players of all skill levels. Modeled after other youth sports leagues, PGA Jr. League allows kids to compete in a team-oriented environment, fostering a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship. Players ages 7 to 17 are grouped into teams, where they receive coaching from PGA and LPGA professionals. This team-based format encourages young golfers to develop their skills while building friendships, learning the rules of golf, and enjoying the competition in a supportive, fun atmosphere.

The program emphasizes inclusion, providing opportunities for players to improve their game, no matter their experience level. With a focus on friendly competition rather than intense individual play, PGA Jr. League is perfect for kids who want to learn the game, gain confidence, and have fun on the course. The league also offers various levels of competition, ensuring that participants are challenged at a pace that suits their abilities. By promoting both skill development and personal growth, PGA Jr. League aims to cultivate a lifelong love of golf while teaching important life lessons, such as teamwork, perseverance, and respect.

PGA Professional Doug coaches several teams at Currie Golf Course in Midland and his trained assistant coaches coach teams at Maple Leaf Golf Course in Linwood, Bay County Golf Course in Bay City, Sandy Ridge Golf Course in Midland, Bay City Country Club in Bay City, and Crooked Creek in Shields.  13U teams compete in a scramble format against teams from area courses.  For 2025 the 17U teams will compete in numerous formats including scramble, alternate shot, and stableford.  Competition is amongst teams from area courses.

The 2025 season consists of a parent / player kick off meeting on May 5th at Bay City Country Club, a minimum of 10 team practices (More if a player wants to attend additional team practices), six matches (Monday mornings for 13U and Wednesday mornings for 17U), and a chance at a birth into the post season.  All star players are picked from without the entire league in both divisions and will continue to practice in August and move on to the state tournament with a chance at a regional and national birth.

Additional opportunities for players will include several stroke play tournaments, a regional match play tournament, and a family scramble in July.

Coaches and Sponsors Give Opportunity to Local Youth Golfers

We've got our sights set on top 25 most impactful programs in the country for 2025.  To continue to grow and thrive A program of this magnitude needs support on several fronts.

COACH Role Models - Our Biggest Need:  As our league continues to grow we are in need of adult role models who have a passion for the game of golf and want to create experiences and positive memories for the next generation.

PGA Jr. League coaches and assistants are needed for the 2025 season.  Coaches and assistants commit approximately 40-50 hours total for the entire summer season.   The season runs from late May to the first week of August.  Coaches will lead a practice session weekly for 1 1/2 hours at their assigned golf course / location.  You pick the time.  There will be a total of 10 practices per season.  Matches for 13U will be on a total of six Mondays during the season.  Tentative dates are:  June 9, 16, 23, July 7, 14, 21.   Matches for 17U will be on a total of six Wednesdays during the season.  Tentative dates are:  June 11, 18, 25, July 9, 16, 23.  Coaches will undergo training in the off season.  Training dates are TBD but are anticipated to start in March or April.    All coaches will be background checked and must complete safe sport training.  This is a paid position.

If you’re interested, please text or call PGA Professional Doug Temple at 989.992.0404.

Sponsors Make the Difference:  Each year local businesses and individuals step up and help youth in our community discover their passions and follow their dreams.  Scholarships are available to assure every junior golfer is given the opportunity to participate.  Additionally, sponsor support provides teams snacks, prizes, year end parties, and supports post season expenses when all star teams compete at the state, regional or national level.  Sponsorship packets are available at the top of our website.
